Memtest locks up after on test2

Just got a new stick of ocz 256 ddr 400 ram to add to my computer which currently has one stick of ram identical to the new one. I boot up memtest from the cd, get through test 1 fine, then get to test 2 and it immediatly locks up. I've heard of this happening to a few people, but memtest worked fine for me before. Could it not be working due to a bios update I applied since the last time I ran the test? Is there any other test I can run on my ram to make sure it is good (I already got a bad stick of the same type of ram when I origanly orderd my computer, this new stick is what I got from the RMA).

So basicly is this lockup mean my ram is bad, or is something else causing this? And is there any other way to test my ram?

Try testing the suspect stick of ram by itself. If it passes, there may be a bios setting that you should set (it escapes me) to get better dual channel compatibility.

Are you 100% sure they are the same? TwinMos, for example, has different revisions of the same chip that shouldn't be mixed in dual channel.

Im 99% sure they are the same. I ordered 2 types of the same stick, and one didn't work, so I sent it back to googlegear, and I assume they send me the same type. Looks the exact same....

I'd say test each stick seperatly. Start w/ the old stick that worked before. If it doesnt work anymore then it could be a BIOS thing. If it does work then try the new stick. If it doesnt work then problem solved, if it does then the 2 sticks arent playing nice together. If that happens maybe just RMA it back again. Also, I never heard of memtest freezing. I thought it just stopped and gave an error code...although it has been a long day...so I may be thinking of something else.

I think I remember this from one of Thugs' posts: disable usb legacy support, try it again, and if it still freezes, turn off cpu caching once you're in memtest. I had to do both of these things to get it to work on my machine.
