Memtest error on Patriot PC3200 RAM

I'm kinda new at this, so please bear with me. I recently installed a used Patriot Signature Line 1GB (2x512MB) RAM that I won on eBay. The model # is PSD1G400KH with blue heatsinks and CL=2.5. The memory I already have are Patriot Signature PSD1G400K, w/o heatsink and have CL=2.5, which I'd purchased from Newegg.

I could use some help on reading the results for Memtest86+. Having run a few passes using the advice I found at http://forums.anandtech.com/me...id=28&threadid=1901991, I think I have a problem with the new RAM. Please take a look at this memtest86+ screenshot. I've already run 6 passes of Test #5 with no errors. When I ran the default tests for 9 passes, I got 73 errors and one failure with Test #6 at 534.2MB. In a previous test, there was another failure at this same address, but for Test #2. What does this mean? Is my second DIMM bad? Am I overrreacting? 😕

The first 2 DIMM slots (nearest to the CPU) are occupied by the old RAM. The last 2 slots are occupied by the new (used) RAM.

Specs:
Chaintech VNF4 Ultra Zenith VE
AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Winchester
Phoenix AwardBIOS v 6.00PG

Any help is appreciated. 🙂

find out the default voltage the ram u got from ebay is supposed to run at, its probably like 2.4v or 2.6v
pull out all your other ram and install just 1x of the new ones.

test each one at a time using memtest86+ v2.00 for about 24 hours each.

the one that doesn't pass is the bad one and u can do whatever u want with it:
-complain to ebay seller
-RMA with patriot

Thanks for the fast reply, Louisssss! The voltage is 2.6 and I already set it in the bios before running the last batch of tests.

Is it necessary to run the tests for 24 hours each? I'm asking cuz I'm a little pressed for time. Of course, the longer the better to be sure, but what's a reasonable minimum time?

Well, technically RAM should be able to run the test for days and not have any errors. You should probably just try to RMA it with Patriot if possible.

If the memory is failing at DDR328 I'd hate to think what it would do at rated speed. I'd try one at a time as close to DDR400 as you can get. I's sure the bad stick will fail real quick. Decent PC3200 ought to be able to hit at least 220MHz without failure. Speed it up a little and see what happens.
