Memtest 86 Errors (Further help needed 1/3/05)

I'm running memtest86 right now (newest version) and I'm getting errors in the two new tests that were released (4 and 6). The errors I'm getting are not consistent in the address they are occurring in, nor pattern (except for 6, which seems to be ffffffdf good and ffffffff bad), yet the error-bits are the same for each error (00000020). I upped the memory voltage from Auto to 2.6v, and got errors in pass 0, which weren't there before (same tests, different address and patterns but still same err-bits).

I upped the voltage to 2.7 and I'm still getting the same errors, not in the same places or the same address or the same pattern's, yet the same err-bits still. Sometimes I can go a whole pass without errors, but others I'm getting errors right off the bat, still only in tests 4 and 6.

Upped the voltage to 2.75v and still the same.

Any ideas?

BTW, I've tried switching the RAM spots, but to no avail.

Do you have another computer to test the RAM with? It might be that your motherboard is picky about the RAM... I've had similar "errors" in memtest86 but when testing on another system, no problems at all. Also, if it's just a compatibility issue, you can still run Windows stably despite the memtest86 errors.

Nah, not another computer to test with. I upped the voltage to 2.75v and had less errors, went through 5 passes before spotting one.

Are you running the tests at stock speeds?

Yup. Well, auto.

Also, I was wondering, I have my ram in my mobo for dual channel, and my ram speed is 2159 mb/s, is that right? Shouldn't it be around 6000 mb/s?

Memtest shows the unbuffered memory speed, i.e. the "raw" memor speed, if you will.
That's perfectly normal 🙂

As for the errors, I'm a bit stuck for ideas. Have you tried testing sticks individually, and eliminating certain DIMM slots?

I changed my timings from 2-2-2-6 @ 400mhz with 2.8v of power to 2.5-2-2-6 @ 400mhz with 2.8v power and are stable. What would be better speed wise though? Leave the 2.5-2-2-6 or change it to 2-3-2-11 (suggested by tech support)?
