Sorry, i know this question has been asked before and i know in the past i've recommended an answer but for the life of me, i can't remember which test number in memtest86 was the hardest test. I recently got another 4g and i am doing some stability testing...

I think it was either test 4,5, or 6 that stressed the memory the most. does anyone know exactly?

Thanks much!

For Memtest86+, it's 5.
Not certain on the non + version; don't use that one.

By far this the best test for quickly finding errors, particularly when OCed.
Obviously, the full test should be run, but it's great for quickly checking.

I'm testing a 2x2gb kit to add to my h20 cooled Q9650 system. It's funny, when I sold my Maximus II Formula board I sold this exact same ram with it because I thought i'd never use it but i'm trying to beef up my AVCHD editing machine.

Running the full test and its on its 3rd pass 0 errors so far. I had all sticks installed and initially ran LinX using some 5gb for testing and it BSOD'd so i am isolating the 2 new sticks. I will try mem test in the OS next.

With this Gigabyte board there are a few memory modes. standard, turbo, extreme (something like that) and its on turbo running the timings @ 5.4.4.12 My original first 2x2 sticks were running like this for the longest without any problems so I can either run all 4 sticks (8g) like this or change them to 5.5.5.15

Memtest is a tester not a stress tester. LinX will find other weaknesses you may not realize with everyday computing. However if you have bad ram as found with Memtest you can get a BSOD any time or program errors, corrupt PST file, etc.

I had a couple of odd results with LinX. Using too much memory would always result in a BSOD. I lowered the ram usage amount and it passes no problems. I think I wrote a thread about LinX - if only my memory was as good as my pc's lol

You should be able to pass LinX using ALL memory. Try it stock.

Yup, passed 'ALL' 15 cycles no errors 37 min

You are not using all your memory if it passes that fast. Mine takes about four hours for 25 passes, 4.5GHz W3540, 60GFLOPS.

I only tested the new sticks.

Right now, I am using "all" with the full 4 sticks by 8g and it is allowing 6978mb. I raised the MCH to 1.24v and the PLL to 1.570v cause if both pairs are passing then the problem i guess is in the subsystem. Its been so long since i clocked my system i sorta forgot how. I think that's all i needed to raise.
