With the memory slots so close on my motherboard, if I install memory with heat spreaders the DIMM's push against eachother.

Is this safe or will it cause a short or other problems? I've gently attempted to remove the spreaders but they seem to be bonded to the memory stick.

Any suggestions please?

hi welcome to the forums

1st - does your motherboard support Dual channel memory? Which model/brand is the motherboard, this can help. How many modules are you running?

Well, you should have 4 slots, if you have DC memory support, they shouuld be placed so that there is an empty slot between the memory modules if you have 2x modules (the configuration depend on manufacturer)

It is the Asus A8V style board.

It does support Dual-channel DDR400 and has the 4 slots.

They are paired up [][] [][]

So I guess I should be putting the 1 gig corsair sticks in the 1st slot of each pair?

I'm using CORSAIR TWINX2048-4000PT 2 x 1gb sticks.

I no longer have the manual that came with the board, but I do recall it stating that for the memory I should put them both in the same pairing (color coded) slot.

Do you think 1 in the first slot of each would work? I suppose I should try to find the manual in PDF on Asus's site.

Yeah, that might help. It won't hurt the RAM to have the heatspreaders touching.

Heat spreaders touching each other do not have any negative affect on rams except reduce heat dissipation. If the system is working fine and most especially if you are not oc'ing your rams, you should be OK.
