Memory? What's best and where?

Planning on ordering 256MB memory tonight.... Looking at PCBoost PC133, but stumped as to whether to get their "Broker" or "Standard" grade (6 layer vs. 4 layer). Both are CAS 3 [edit]. Broker is $128, and Standard is $80. Also, is this a good price/company, and/or what's a good place to order from? Currently I'm not overclocked, due to bad memory, but intend to use it in OCing. Right now, I'm using a 100FSB system, but I'm also planning to upgrade to a 133 FSB system.

Follow this link for 15% off of crucial.com's prices. Once there, click on the "GO" icon and select your motherboard. Make sure that you get the chip whose part number ends in "7E". This is some of the best memory available, and will run pc133 at cas2-2-2 settings. This will run you $161.49 with free 2nd day shipping. It is definitely worth paying a little extra for this quality memory. I paid $207 for mine about 2 months ago.

There are other brands which are equally as good, Mushkin, Infineon, Corsair, and Kingston, but this memory is at a good price with free shipping, so you really can't beat it.

Click on that PC150 button on the bottom, those are the RAMs I'd recommend.

divinemartyr:

Comes out a little cheaper, since PCBoost's shipping is freakin' 14 bucks on something that the main weight is the packaging :disgust:

LXi:

It seems everyone's able to OC using PC133 without problems... Why would you suggest 150?

Glad I could help out, if you're overclocking from 100 fsb, then you will get a nice speed increase at 133. Not to mention if you do manage to get it higher than 133, this memory will run higher than 133 at cas2, it's just great memory, lifetime warranty, and crucial offers excellent service. Glad I could be of help.

Roguetech:

I'd recommend PC150 because its a very high quality RAM, its rated at 150MHz 3-3-2, but many users have been running them at 2-2-2 without a problem. $72 a stick as cheap as it gets, Kingmax offer lifetime warranty as well, if you want lower shipping, visit mwave.com, they carry the same RAM at the same price.

I'd recommend the Crucial Cas3. Its $60 for 128 meg and $128 for 256 meg. It will run 133 FSB @ 2-2-2. Free 2 day shipping to boot. I've never run my system higher than 140 FSB, so I'm not sure how high it will go.

I've managed to get my PII 350 mine up to 143... I'd hate to buy a PIII 133 bus, and blow out a PC100 memory stick, though I doubt I'll be able to OC it to the extent that I've been able to with my 350. PIII 800 at 1.1GHz...? Do-able? I've read on here people doing it, I think... (Though, technically, the equivalent OC would be to 1.4 ;)) I guess my question would be there, though, is what are my odds of wanting to go beyond 140 with a PIII 133 bus?

Also, as I noted on my original post, I WAS OC'd, but not now. The chip that threw the whole thing outta whack is a PC100 CAS2 Samsung/memman chip, which I've heard is one of the better...

Eh, it depends on your setup and how hardcore an overclocker you are. There are people out there running 150 FSB and beyond. PIII 800 @ 1.1 GHz? I highly doubt it.

It all comes down to whether you're willing to spend that extra $20 for something thats gurrantteed to hit 150Mhz.

oldfart & LXi:
Getch yer stories straight and tell me what to get :p

oldfart:
I wouldn't call myself "hardcore"... I don't buy the special coolant gels or water- or super-cooled case... Just a GlobalWinVek 20 fan. I just got lucky with the CPU I bought. I doubt I'll be so lucky again, but on the other hand, I don't want to be limited by my memory. If you think that's not likely, cool.

Yep, like LXi says. If you need 150, be sure to buy PC 150. If you need PC133, you can spend the extra money or not. Your choice to make.
