Memory Voltage on MSI KT6V-LSR

Hey guys, I've got the MSI KT6V-LSR and I'm getting lots of crashes that seem like bad memory. You know, random crashes, bluescreens that refer to windows system files and the like; and when I run chkdsk I get no errors, so it looks like memory.

Now I've left the memory voltage to Auto in the BIOS but in the MSI CoreCenter app in windows it shows 2.60V (I thought the default setting was 2.50V). I can't set 2.5 in the BIOS and when I set 2.5 in CoreCenter it goes back to 2.6 whenever I reboot.

I've got HyperX RAM that people said uses 2.6V but this new replacement stick I got specifically says 2.5. Now I ran memtest86 on the PC for over 12 hours with no errors but I changed all sorts of things and still got the crashes so I decided to change my memory and see what happens. When I did do that the ram stick I took out was HOT, I mean really really hot. Anyhow, I put in the new ram and still got the crashes.

So my question is, is 2.6V an unhealthy ram voltage setting and can a higher setting cause memory type crashes/overheating?

hmm

in my experience, i don't think the voltage is the case. Are you overclocking them? If it crashes, and memtest runs fine, then I'm guessing it might just be a bad install of windows. I don't know too much, but maybe windows isn't dumping the memory properly or something? donno..heh

It can also always be a heating problem, as I get BSOD's during the summer when i forget to unoverclock.

What are your full system specs? Include the psu's rating.

Okay, well here's a little history:

I originally had the MSI KT6 Delta-LSR and a Geforce 3 (original). The Gf3 had damage to a surface component that I had resoldered and it worked fine, but every once in a while (probably twice a month or less) the computer would crash. Now I thought it was my Gf3, and while at a LAN party I got really annoyed at all the crashes so the next week I bought a refurbished 9800. From the time I put that in there were problems galore. Crashes more frequent than ever. Then it worked well for a weekend. Then the crashes started back and getting worse and worse and worse. It was so bad windows couldn't boot. Then even worse, windows would crash when installing. At that time memtest86 confirmed my RAM was bad, but when replacing the RAM I still got the symptoms, I concluded that the board was also bad so I sent both back. During the time it was going back for the RMA I gave my bro the 9800 to use and he used it for 3 weeks with no problems (so it's good).

Got the replacement board, a KT6V-LSR, and RAM and now there are still crashes, but now it's not just windows crashing but also programs.

Well, here are my system specs:
2600+ (Barton) @ 1919MNz (167FSB x 11.5) - I'm not overclocking
MSI KT6V-LSR Motherboard
512MB Kingston HyperX PC2700 RAM
Sapphire 9800
FSP Group 350W PSU
2 Maxtor 40GB HDs (one in SATA mode with a SATA converter)
1 WD 30GB HD
Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM
Lite-On 48x CD-RW
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz sound card
Leadtek Winfast TV 2000 XP Deluxe tv card
Creative V.92 PCI Modem

Just a couple more notes:

I thought maybe my lil 350W PSU was overloaded so I put in a 450W generic PSU and removed the sound card and TV card and disconnected the 30GB hard drive, that didnt work.

I turned off dynamic overclocking and spread spectrum in the BIOS, that didn't work.

I set the ram timing configurations to SPD rather than setting them myself, that didn't work.

I set the video card to AGP 4x, that didn't work.

Plus what was in my post above.

Any help that you guys can give with be greatly appreciated.

could be just an overheating problem?...i knw it's probably not the case, but maybe your room is too hot or something?

what heatsinkfan are you using?

Have you tried cpuburn? memtest the ram you just got rma'd as well.

I memtested the new ram with no probs. I'll try that cpu burn thing.

I'm using an AeroCool Glacier. It's an all copper HS with an 80mm fan. And Arctic Silver 3.
