Memory Usage, please give any ideas..

Have a recently built system, amd2000+ , soyo dragon lite, 512mb Micron DDR etc.

System is rock stable, couldnt ask for more. I have this one problem regarding a memory leak
and i cant figure it out.

I installed a maxtor ata133 ide controller and whenever I'm running my ftp server and ppl are downloading
files from the drives on the ide controller, my system EATS memory. It almost seems as if the files are caching
to RAM as they are downloading. The memory will gradually go up until i get close to using 500mb and my system
will start to lag. If i close the ftp server, all the memory is released. I have all the latest drivers and 4in1's etc
and I'm on a relatively clean install of windows XP. Latest drive for maxtor is installed. This problem is very
similar to what I've seen when running Direct Connect.

Any ideas? dont feel like formatting for something like this.
