Memory Upgrade?

My current specs are in my sig. I am considering upgrading my memory to either 3 or 4gb, but I'm not sure if there is any reason to. I have two questions: would upgrading the amount of memory make any difference in the performance of my computer? and I'm running Windows XP 32 bit- if I do upgrade, how much memory will be recognized?

Do you do anything that requires that much RAM? What do you use the machine for? I have 4x1GB running with XP 32bit, it sees 3.5GB-256MB(for video ram)=3.25GB.

Sorry, should have included that in the OP. Video editing and a bit of 3D modeling/animation are the main intensives thing I do with this computer aside from gaming.

I would suggest adding 2x512MB sticks. If you add 2 more 1GB sticks you will only get to use 3.25GB total so there is a pretty crappy return on your investment (only utilizing 62.5% of what you buy). Going with two smaller sticks you will continue to operate in dual channel mode where with one stick you will drop into single channel mode (the extra 256MB useable isn't worth it).
