Sorry for asking, but I am a little ole and need help. Plan to upgrade my old Gateway PC bu adding addional Ram. Ordered from Gateway a set of 512 MD PC3200 DDR 400 Memory sticks. Currently have a set of 256 MD PC3200 DDR sticks as orginally installed w/2 of 4 slots available-question?

Can I install the new 512 MD sticks with existing 256 for a total 1536 of Dram? If yes, what order if important? Thsnks!

If your motherboard supports dual channel mode, you can use one 512 MB stick and one 256 MB stick on each side. Check your manual. The sockets may be color coded do designate the two channels.

If 'd also suggest checking the price of RAM from reliable vendors other than Gateway. I don't know what they're asking for 2 x 512 MB sticks of PC3200, but if it's more than $50 for 2 x 512 sticks, you may be able to find much better prices for name brand RAM for less from reputable online dealers. Since the weekend's here, you should also check your local office/tech stores for advertised specials and coupons.

Here's what newegg has.

Good luck. :)
