Memory upgrade question....

I'm currently running an AXP 2800 on an Abit NF7 rev2 mobo with 1gig Crucial pc2700 dual channel ram. I have one memory slot available and was thinking about getting another 512 meg chip to install. I would get the same brand memory. Would I be wasting my money? Machine runs great now but just considering it since memeory is cheap right now.

nahh i don't think it would be worth it for a computer like that if it still runs great and you dont have any stalls in games ect...i would save it and try to upgrade something you will get more benefit from...

imho you'd be better off not upgrading, 1 GB atm is enough and installing a 3rd stick now might introduce problems (latency, or more serious ones) and imho memory isnt going to go up much if at all in the future.

I kind of figured that. Games play pretty good on my machine right now, certainly can't complain anyway. Thanks for your input.

You'd disable Dual Channel by installing a 3rd stick. You'd LOSE performance.

1Gb is all you need for gaming or just about anything else right now (okay, maybe until Battlefield 2 comes out which if BF1942 is any example it'll require 4Gb). The only reason to put more than 1Gb in a system is if you're using big memory hog apps like Photoshop, CAD or VMWare.

Thanks for the info. I knew that by installing the third module that the dual channel funtion would be disabled but was wondering if the extra ram would make up for it. Thanks all.
