memory upgrade problem

I have a K6-2 533mhz that I am trying to upgrade to 256sdram from it's stock 64sdram. The new stick is a 256 133mhz sdram dimm... goes in original slot no problem, but when restarting computer... mb ram amount clicks away in upper left hand corner of screen up to 120mb, then screen changes into a mumbo jumbo of patterns and stays that way. Have tryed reinstalling only to have same outcome. Original memory will work just fine when reinstalled. Bad stick?????? What am I doing wrong??? Help!!!

Could be a bad stick of ram could be the board cannot recognize 256mb dimms what does your mobo manual say about 256MB dimms? what is the brand of your mobo?

that's mighty odd. You may want to try and reset the mainboard and see what happens >> this can easily done by simply removing the CMOS battery for about 5-10 seconds. Good luck!

removed the battery for 10 secs and it did not help. thanks for the suggestions though... you guys are great.

Is the dimm one sided or two sided? if it is one sided the board might not support high density memory

Where did you buy the memory from? have two ask this because i know someone that thought he was geetting a great deal on egay and the memory was of course bad

I do not mean to put speedy down but sometimes 5-10 sec does not do it so if your board leave it out for 1/2 hour that will for shure reset the cmos.

macssuck.. you are right on the nose. I just got off the phone with Kingston and I do have a one sided stick and need the two sided for proper function. They are going to swap it out on Monday with the correct module. BTW... Kingston has by far the best technical support I have ever received which is really nice for a change. Thanks for all your guys help!! Awesome. Gary G.
