Hey guys,

Looking to upgrade a system based on an Intel D845BG mobo to 2x512MB. The official documentation says it accepts only DDR 200 and 266 sticks.

I can get 2x512MB 266MHz sticks, but with that price can get 2x512MB 400MHz (PC3200) sticks. My question is whether or not the PC3200 RAM will simply run at 266MHz speeds, or should I just get the PC2100 RAM?

Here's the mobo documentation.

The D845BG and D845PT boards both have two DIMM sockets and support the following
memory features:
? 2.5 V (only) 184-pin DDR SDRAM DIMMs with gold-plated contacts
? Unbuffered single-sided or double-sided DIMMs
? Maximum total system memory: 2 GB; minimum total system memory: 64 MB
? 200/266 MHz DDR SDRAM DIMMs only
? Serial Presence Detect (SPD)
? Suspend to RAM
? Non-ECC and ECC DIMMs

DDR RAM is backwards compatible all the way down to 83 MHz, no matter what its top speed is rated at. (Rare) BIOS screwups might prevent you from actually doing it. Short answer: It should work fine. YMMV.
