Memory Upgrade Messed Up CD Drive

:| I was wondering if someone could help me. I just bought a new memory upgrade for my HP Pavilion 503W. The upgrade is DDR PC2100 256mb. When I installed it everything was fine and it stated what the new memory amount was. When I tried to put my cd's in afterwards to install a new game it wouldn't read the CD. I also tried music cd's and I got the same result. Before I put the new memory upgrade in the cd drive was working just fine. I want to play my cd's!!! This is so frustrating and no one can help me unless I have money in my hand. Any one have any ideas what might be wrong????

Thanks,
Frustrated and Annoyed

Welcome to AnandTech!

Well I would try removing the RAM, then trying to run your CD's again. If the ROM doesn't work it may be a dead drive.

If the CD-ROM works after taking out the RAM, well you need better expertise than me. Good luck!

Check that you didn't knock the ribbon cable whilst you had the box open.

Unplug, and replug the ribbon/ide cable back into the cd.
Start up and try it now.

Oh my goodness a brick just lifted off my shoulders. I wiggled the ribbon around a little bit and checked to see that it was connected and it was so I just wiggled it around and turned the computer back on. I don't know what I did but now it works. You know what's funny is my fiance was trying for 3 hours to figure it out last night why the cd drive wasn't working. I had suggested when he opened the computer to put the memory in that maybe he bumped that ribbon thing. I really didn't know what it was but it was me that ended up fixing it. Funny huh. Anyway thanks a lot for your help and Merry Christmas!!!
