i have an HP Mini 5101 netbook that came with 1Gb RAM. i was going to upgrade to 2Gb; should i choose based on price/convienience or is there some added performance to be achieved by being more discerning?

the Atom bus is 533MHz and i have plenty of RAM choice around 667 and 800. will my best be finding a 667 with tight timings?

are there power conservation considerations that would be more beneficial than some small speed benefit?

thanks in advance.

thanks for the response. i don't understand your recommendation though because you seem to contradict yourself by recommending a quality RAM.

if performance doesn't come into it why wouldn't i buy some cheap stuff or not upgrade to 2Gb at all? (reason below)

performance is relative, so yes, "performance on a netbook"!

otherwise there would be no performance increase to be had by replacing the 1Gb by 2Gb.

it is a netbook so you can't speak about performance.it's either bad or really bad.the CPU won't be bandwidth limited so just go with the cheapest compatible branded memory you can find.you will see a performance increase if you are over utilizing you memory currently and therefore paging to disk. if that's not the case then you won't see a difference with the upgrade
