Hey guys, I'm sort of slow when it comes to hardware so be gentle :D

I have a Gigabyte K8N-Pro board, with an Ahtlon 64 3000+ cpu and 1GB of PC3200 memory. I am having trouble getting my memory to clock @ 200mhz. I checked cpu-z and it is showing 166mhz so I went to my bios and changed it to 200 and everything looks like it will be fine, but once Windows begins to load it reboots. It only reboots once the little blue bar is done going across.

What does this mean? Do I have bad RAM?

Can you guys help me?

Look up Memtest86 and run that with your RAM set at 200mhz - if there is a sure-fire stability problem, it'll tell you. Once you've determined that, it may be a timing issue(you're running at too tight of memory timings for your RAM when it's at 200mhz), as opposed to the RAM being flat-out incapible of doing 200mhz.

What are your RAM timing ratings? You may be trying to run them too tight for your ram. If it's cheap generic RAM, try running it a JEDEC.

I had to run and find a floppy to try to run that memtest86 program. Once its done formatting the floppy I'll try that out.

Slash- I'm sorry, like I said I'm a hardware noobie, how do I figure out my timings? I just changed the frequency to 200mhz.

Sorry to tell you this, but I've seen some other people with the same problem running that Gigabyte mobo. There is a strong possibility that you'll be stuck running your RAM at sub-stock speeds in order to get your system stable.

In CPUz, this is what it brings up for memory:

Frequency: 167.4
FSB:DRAM: CPU/12.0
CAS# Latency: 2.5 Clocks
RAS# to CAS# delay: 3
RAS# Precharge: 3
Cycle time: 7
Bank Cycle time: 10
DRAM idler timer: 16

Does that help?

It's a start. The question is what timings is it running at for 200mhz? Set it to 200mhz, and then look for similar memory timings in the CMOS settings, and report those back. As for Memtest86, that comes on a CD.:p
