i have this memory from g.skill. it's rated at 5-5-5-15 at 800 at 1.8-2.0v. i can run the memory at 1000 with the same timings at 2.1v. when i try to reduce the timings to 4-4-4-12 at 800 with the same v it wont post. it seems that if it will go at 1000 with looser timings it should go at 800 with the tighter timings. i know nothing really of memory timings so i may be missing something. my rig is in my sig and if anyone can give me any advice that would be great.

Not all memory will do tight timings. That memory doesn't use Micron D9 ICs so it will be less likely to do it.

Crucial Ballistix are ALWAYS D9GMH. I'd go with that, but you may also find GSkill HZ not a bad buy either. I went with GSkill because at the time it was cheaper than Ballistix.

Is there a comprehensive website to look at for RAM timings and what they do?
