Memory Timings

I have a stick of Kingston ValueRAM 512MB. The timings are 5-5-5-15 and 2T. Would I notice a performance gain/loss if i changed the timings. If I can change these timings...I know it'll have to be done in the BIOS. Does the motherboard's manual tell you how to do these things?? I'm a noob compared to the people in these forums so I'm sorry if I'm reposting this topic. My computer specs are in my signature. Thanks in advance.

You are taking a performance hit...... period.... you have a NVIDIA 570 Dual Channel Motherboard, and by running 1 stick you are hamstringed....

You need to purchase another piece of the exact same RAM so that you see the benefit of Dual Channel.

Yes, he's taking a whopping <5% performance hit.
Seriously, dual channel barely affects real world applications at all; you should know this...

As for changing timings, you can attempt to lower them, but value RAM doesn't generally like those kinds of changes, meaning it won't work w/o extra vdimm, & maybe not even then.

When you say exact RAM. Does it have to beat exact exact as in everything the same. Nothing different including the brand or timing?

Also about that 2T. Is it faster if it is set to 1T??

In AMD land this is correct...it's not a big difference because of the controller being on the CPU. Now, with intel it's different and the performance increase can be rather large.

Yes

Yes

Yes...

The 2T changing to 1T can be set in the BIOS right?

EDIT: OK. I changed my timing of the 2T to 1T. So far so good. Now i gotta run some memory/CPU tests. Any good suggestions on what tests I should run?

EDIT: Changed it back to 2T by pressing load deafults in BIOS. Seems my performance went down...

Ok, Its best to run with 2 sticks of RAM that have same values, kinda like running same tyres on the front of ur car i think ?.....the short version with any changes is trial and error....just make sure u know how to reset the MB Bios 😉

Lol. Resetting the BIOS. That I don't know. I skimmed throught the mobo's manual on how to update a BIOS, and well...I won't be updating that BIOS unless I have to. Don't wanna break this computer....I'm not sure on how to update the BIOS myself besides that I need to use a USB since I don't have floppy.
