I intend to get a new motherboard (Abit NF7-S v2) with an AMD Barton 2500+ to replace my aging Abit BP6.
While I have read quite a few memory reviews, I have yet to choose which one to get. I take the approach to get my money's worth i.e. I don't want to spend 25% more to get a 3% increase in speed... Since I intend to overclock, I wonder if I can adjust the memory timings to suit the end speed or if the memory will be a limiting factor? IOW, can I lower the memory timings of the DDR to be able to get to the highest speed or is there a real limit to it? All the tests I've seen don't really say how much you can relax the timings to get to the highest FSB. I know there is a certain aspect of trial and error depending on the sticks one has but how much relaxing can one do? On Xbit labs, an older test with relaxed timings shows the speed penalty to be fairly low in relaxing timings...
