memory timings question

I have a gigabyte ex38-dq6 motherboard and ended up with some PK series g.skill RAM. Is it still desireable to have the timings at 1:1, currently I am at 5:8, does this mean I will need to slow my FSB down to match the RAM and will it be beneficial?

If you are overclocking, you might have to lower the ratio in order to reach higher FSB speeds.

But for running stock, i wouldn't suggest underclocking your RAM.

My general rule for clocking is to put the CPU as the first priority, then base the RAM speeds around whatever maximum you can coax out of the CPU.
 
Just FYI, you're talking about what's generally referred to as the ratio, not the timings.

As n7 said, your priority is to get the CPU speed where you want it, and then let the RAM follow. It would be nice to know what CPU you're using though.
