Memory timings. Do they matter for everyday performance?

In an attempt to get my PC more stable, I gave my memory some slack timings (9-9-9-30 2T, they're rated at 8-8-8-24) but I'm not noticing any real difference while playing games or just browsing the web.

For casual everyday use, does it matter at what timing your memory is at?

Absolutely not.

Other than benching, it's very difficult to see any large performance difference in pretty much anything.

I still always tweak my RAM to the best possible speed/timings though, as it's fun seeing better numbers in Everest.

I like the idea that i'm getting the absolute most from it, even if i can't perceive a large difference. :sneaky:

Here's one of the better reviews i've seen of how speed/timings affects performance.

You are looking at probably at most, 2-3% frame-rate increase in games between something like cas 10 vs cas 7. CPU speed, HD speed, GPU clockrate will give you a significantly higher gains with just a small boost.

Now timings might matter if you've already maxed out everything else 😛
