Memory timing question

E6700

Senior member
i been having my q6600 oc'ed at 3.6 for the whole time with mem timing at 4 4 4 12, but i hear people saying loosing the timing is better so i set it to 5 5 5 15 recently. so could someone answer this simple question for me. thanks in advanced

4 4 4 12 is faster, but it could also potentially be unstable if the RAM isn't rated for it, hence why some people would say 5 5 5 15 would be better. Looks like you have Crucial Ballistix, so it should be able to handle timings of 4 4 4 12 as long as the voltage is set correctly, which will either be 2.0 or 2.2V.

Memory timings are quoted in terms of delay. Thus, smaller numbers are faster.

In your case, if it's running just fine, then why change anything? You would only try to loosen your timings if you were pushing for a higher overclock... at 3.6 GHz, you're already pretty well maxed out.
