I have an Abit NF7-M motherboard with the latest bios, and just recently received a GB of Corsair Value Series DDR PC-3200. I installed windows xp fine, loaded everything up without a hitch. As part of my "burn-in" I usually run memory diag, hdd diag, etc.

When I ran memtest86 I began to get hundreds of errors. I was using the memory at 400mhz even though the cpu is only 200mhz bus (Athlon Thunderbird 1000). I didn't know there was anything wrong with making the memory faster. I also was using SPD for ram timings and voltage.

I went reading on Abit's forums, and one of the moderators suggested running the ram at 2.5-3-3-8 and 2.7volts, instead of 2.5-3-3-7 and 2.6 volts which is automatically detected by the mobo. I ran memtest86 with the same errors as before.

As a last resort before I considered an RMA, I ran the memory at 6/6 (200mhz) to match the bus of the processor. I set the memory back to SPD, so it was running 2.5-3-3-7 at 2.6v. It ran for 6 hours with not even one error!

My question is: I am wrong to assume you can set your memory higher than your cpu fsb? Does it cause a cpu bottleneck? Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated!

anothr issue I am wondering about...

I am going to be upgrading to a mobile 2400+ barton with a 266 bus, do you think when I get that processor I will still have problems running the memory at 400mhz?
