I'm thinking of getting a new MSI K8N Neo plat mobo w/ either a 2800+ or 3000+ A64 chip. i've been doing some research the past few days, and i can't really come up with what kind of memory to get.

i've read somewhere that it'd be best for the me to just get one 512 or a gig stick of memory, rather than getting 2 smaller modules, as socket 754 doesn't use duel channel for the memories like the good ole XPs.

i was just thinking of getting a value ram, but i started reading about the 2-2-2 sticks and been tempted to spend nearly double what i was originally thinking on memory.

I plan on doing some moderate OCing.. even if not, i like having the choice to do so down the line. if you have any memory suggestions and even a mobo suggestion, it'd be great. thanks.

I'm looking at the same situation as you, Jombo. I've got the MSI Neo plat picked out with a A64 3000+ chip. Just dunno what kind of RAM to get.

I was leaning towards either the Mushkin 2x512MB 2-3-2 or the Mushkin 2x512 MB at 2.5-4-4. I've heard nothing but good things about Mushkin so I thought I'd give them a try. The difference in price between the 2 is about $100, so I'm just trying to decide if the performance increase is justified.

Lemme know yer thoughts.

i'm kinda in a bind. i'm currently running 2 sticks of 512 pc2700s, which i picked up for under 62 each last year, but i'm doing a upgrade swap for a box i'm building for my store, which i dun think would need a gig of ram. i dun know if i should just keep my existing stick and get 2 256s for the duel channel, or just get the nice CAS 2 timing sticks and spend almost as much as my mobo cpu combo on a gig of ram.. :(

i was looking at kingston hyper X , seems pretty reasonable. i wish there were better reviews out there on most of this stuff.. not just for hardcore enthusists that don't mind dropping 3, 4 hundo for ram.. the other thing w/ a64 is whether i need to run the duel channel. i heard there isn't that much perf improvement from having two channels like in the good ole xp days.. i think i'll sit on this for the time being, and look for cheapo ram for the store comp..
