The USB is fried on my laptop (as in, totally fried, as in, zots out the computer when a connector is put in the port), so I have a little bit of a problem. I just got a PSP, and I can't figure out how to connect up to load my memory stick with stuff. I can't use my desktop, because that's just plain FUBAR, so I'm trying to find a reader that connects to IEEE 1394.

Also, what's prolly the best place to get a 1gig MemStick Duo? Newegg, Amazon? 32 mb just ain't enough, and 2 gb is out of my price range at the moment.

I got my 1 GB Pro Duo from Buy.com for $89.95, but that was back in June, so you might be able to find a better price now.

You won't find one, and you suck at computers - not even attempting to fix your desktop, and you somehow managed to totally kill your laptop's USB?

Actually, I suspect that both of these are user error caused by inundating Windows with virii and spyware, you just seem like that kind of nub to me, since you own a PSP, don't care that your computers are broken, and "can't afford" a 2 gig memstick.

Well, actually, I care quite a bit, but my desktop is a 5 year old refurbed Compaq (practically bottom-of-the-line when I got it, too), and I'm replacing it come Christmas, so I'm writing it off as totaled, and my laptop is one I got for free, because the prior owner is family, and dropped it once or twice, which is, we suspect, why the USB ports are screwed.

Plus the PSP is an excellent portable system, I have Ad-Aware, Pop-up Blocker, McAffee VirusScan (updated whenever a new one comes out), and Spyware Search and Destroy on both my computers and never download anything I don't know exactly what it is, and I make about $150 a week (student w/ part-time job) and have better stuff to spend it on than a memory stick that costs more than the game system I'm using it for.

hjo3: Thanks, that looks like it'll work perfectly. I'll order that when my paycheck clears, I guess. I'm glad some people have better things to do than make ~18 posts per day insulting people they don't know.

I'm getting damn good at reading people's technical abilities and "what's really wrong" by just hearing them talk about the problem. That's what phone support does to you.

Okay, I got a PCMCIA USB card, and it's working great. Thanks, hjo3 and Ornery.

Ah, if only I had firmware 1.5 or so instead of 2, so I could put on some of those fun home-brew solutions.

next time you get a laptop, consider the warranty. seriously. having a fubared USB port sucks. i was able to replace my motherboard under my current warranty which fixed my USB ports. :)
