memory speeds help me to understand

I have a question I have a amd xp 2500 cpu it runs at a 333 bus so why all the new memory speeds as of late?
 
333mhz(pc2700) is what you are most likely using. 400mhz(pc3200) is for the 400(amd)/800(intel)Mhz FSB. anything higher than that is for people that want to overclock. There is also DDR2 now for intels new chipset, but at this point it offers no advantage.
