Memory related problem???

I've been getting this problem recently and don't know if my RAM is dying. 🙁 Anybody can help out?? It happens in WC3 and not any other games. It happens once when I was running SETI too. Here's the link of the error.

Do you think the RAM is giving up on me??

RAM generally doesn't go bad, unless you are overclocking it or have the voltage set high.

That error looks like a basic seg fault (program tried to access memory that didn't belong to it), its possible that something went wrong with the installation of the game, try re-installing it and make sure you have any patches to the game.

I've just installed the game because it keep going nuts on me. It hangs all the time I play it. It just happened recently. I did not encounter such problem a month ago. I'm using a DDR333 RAm so I guess that should not be a problem. I'm just afraid that the Kingmax sticks are bad. 🙁

Bad RAM will corrupt random files, a corrupted program could theoretically cause an application to generate a seg fault, but chances are you would have problems in a lot more than just a single game. If you re-installed the game, then the corrupt file would have been replaced. Being that you are still having problems, update all your drivers and kill as many background processes you can and see if the problem persists.

Do you have 2 DIMMs or a single 512 stick? If you have 2 then try testing the system with just a single stick installed.

I get that referencing problem with some other software but it's pretty much random. I'll try to use a dimm and see what happens. I'm using two sticks of 256.

I've seen windows with bad memory (actually, it was just being run too fast) and it doesn't behave like what you've shown us. It blue screens. This is true even with XP & 2k. The problem you've got seems like a simple bad pointer arithmetic bug. Try getting patches for your games if any are available. Also try to get video drivers that a whql (sp?) certified. But I do think that your worries about your ram bear further investigation. Go download goldmemory - my favorite memory diagnostic tool. I've found that it can find memory problems that other programs can't.

I got that error in WC3 once or twice, but I don't remember if I ever figured out what the cause was. I haven't played it for quite a while. I'm pretty sure it's not a RAM problem though, because the rig I had that error on is running great.
