Memory Recommendation

EDIT - I did some more research and my question has changed.

I have an AsRock 4CoreDual Sata2 MB and the thing is picky about overclocking.

I'd like to get memory like this:
http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=2797&p=18

The Mushkin appears to do 3-3-3-8 timings at 1.8V with a 1:1 multiplier.

The MB in question only does overclocking at 1:1 memory ratios without it fighting itself, but it also only can tolerate 1.8-1.9V memory. Underclocking DDR667 or DDR800 seems like the reasonable way to go. Set everything to 1:1 and then ramp up the FSB slowly.

Just $85 for 2 gigs is pricey. Is there anything that equals this for a more reasonable price?

$85 for 2GB is perfectly fine, the best you are going to get for $60 without rebates is 4-4-4-12 AFAIK.

if your board will only do 1.9v you want to get something mfg rated for 1.8v - that mushkin kit is not a guarantee your kit will perform at the same level as the review

you may want to get some 1.8v DDR2-800 and unclock it hoping for the best latency you can get

I just posted a link on another thread to Newegg's ad for 2x1GB 2GB Crucial Ballistix DDR2-800 kit.

I read your OP, and your "approach" conforms to mine. Even if the Mushkins can do 3,3,3,8 @ DDR2-533, it doesn't mean they won't do that @ 667 -- manufacturers tend to be conservative these days in spec'ing the best latency settings for higher-speed DDR2.

I CAN confirm that Ballistix DDR2-1000 modules will do 3,3,3,6 between 667 and 710 Ghz. And another member has the '800's and seems to be able to set same and even tighter latencies. It's a good bet that the Crucials will do tCL/CAS=3 and tRAS of 8 within the max voltage spec.

The NewEgg price today is $75, but there's also a $25 rebate for after-rebate price of $50 for 2GB kit.

Thanks. I'll get one of the two. The problem is that the board only OCs stable at 1:1 memory to FSB ratios, so that means underclocking whatever I get to 533mhz and then ramping the FSB up.

So far my plan is:
- Ballistix or Mushkin memory(not bothering with the rebate - I'll be an old man before it comes)
- E4600. Newegg dropped this to $145 and it's easily worth $45 more than the e2200. I've made a few systems for clients and the E4600 is like the old P2.4 four years ago - superb results for the best price point. And it overclocks to 3.0Ghz quite easily on air(technically higher but paying $50 for a Zalman cooler - I might as well have just bought the faster CPU instead).

Oh - I can do a cap mod to the MB to get it to 2.x volts, but I'd rather not since all the memory's within $15-$15 of each other.

P.S. My last system was a Rambus server board. 2-2-2-4 speed, though DDR1. I wanted to at least do 4-4-4-8, so in reality, anything better than this is more than adequate.
