DDR is faster (double data rate). The memory on a video card is one of the biggest bottleneck (so I heard). The memory on my video card is 460mhz (230xDDR).

Current GPU's are primarily limited by their memory bandwidth - Graphics processors are far outstripping the memory that's available to support them. DDR RAM offers significantly higher bandwidth than regular SDRAM, & is currently the memory of choice for video cards. QDR RAM (quad), I believe, is in development, & should provide a nice boost in bandwidth as well.

Who knows, maybe. DDR is just now making it to motherboards, so QDR is probably a ways off.

DDR on the MX is a waste.

A regular GF2 MX runs 128bit SDR memory, the DDR version runs 64bit DDR memory...so they are essentially the same. There are no real performance gains - it's all just a marketing ploy. Now if they used 128bit DDR on the MX it would basically be a GTS.

emm....thats really a waste.

Not if it brings in money for the manufacturer. :)

People see "DDR" and equate that with performance, without realizing that the plain old SDRAM version will give equal or better performance due to it's wider memory path.

i dont think there is a faster ram. Each ram type is suited for each processor. RDRAM for P4's and DDR for Tb...

or something similar
