Memory questions...

I hate to ask stupid questions, so I'm in a world of hate right now...

I want to upgrade my system memory from 64mb to 128mb (or more, maybe?), and I -think- I know what I need to do--buy a 64mb PC100 SDRAM, right? But, I think I've got both 72pin and 168pin sockets, and my current 64mb stick is in a (unless I'm totally off-base here--it's the black socket that requires the stick with two notches) 168pin socket. So, based on this, should I get another 168pin stick or a 72pin stick, or does it matter? And, if I wanted to go to 192mb, does it matter that if I added a single 128mb stick, or should I go with two 64mbs?

I am a total goofus on all things PC-hardware, and I'm hoping that you can clear this up for me before I destroy my machine.

Thanks,

I would stick to the SDRAM if you already have it. A lot depends on you Motherboard. Some allow you to mix 168 pin and 72 pin memory others do not. You should be able to get 64MB, 128MB, or 256MB sticks of SDram and install it in you mobo easily. Check your mobo documentation for details. If you do not have a manual go to the manufactures web page and look arround, most have the manuals in PDF format for downloading.
