Memory questions

I have an Asus P4S800D-E Deluxe board and want to buy 2 X 512 PC3200. On Asus's site they have memory that they suggest, I have been looking at a couple dual channel memory kits but their not on Asus's tested memory list. I should be safe? In my other systems I have always used memory that wasn't on the m/b tested site and never had any issues. My only concern is that I have never delt with dual channel memory and want to be safe! Sometimes Asus boards are picky, if it is not on their site check to see if anyone else is using the same memory in the class of board (P4----) your wanting to purchase.

Id most likely go with what ASUS suggests, however if you have the cash to take a risk, then go for it.

Yeah Asus can get very annoying with memory. Their list of tested memory is NOT very entensive, and so its best to just google your memory and the mobo and see what comes up. I have some OCZ ram that wasn't listed on the asus site but on the OCZ site. Check the memory's site too. Best of luck.

Asus normal lists the chips used on the memory they test. if you get memory made w/ the same chips in general your safe. EX. I have the A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2 and it lists some Kingston memory w/ Winbond CH5 chips as compatible, but didn't test the Buffalo modules that use the same chips, yet they work fine. so in general check for memory w/ the same chips or check w/ the memory manufactur to see if their memory is compatible w/ your specific board. I have used several Asus motherboards. I check with the memory manufacturer's site and I've had no compatibility problems. I know that crucial.com and kingston.com have a motherboard selector that lists compatible memory types.
