You can use PC2100 or even PC3500. Though if your CPU is 166 MHz or 200 MHz you don't want to use PC2100 since it's only for 133 MHz CPU's. PC2700 is rated for 166 MHz CPU's and lower.

If you got the PC3500 and used a 133 MHz CPU, the RAM would run at 133 MHz even though it's rated for 216 MHz. The advantage is that if you were to overclock the RAM really wouldn't be holding you back, or if you didn't overclock you could have more aggressive memory timings compared to PC2100.

The reason i am asking is because it doesnt boot and i have generic 2100 mem. I dont know beepcodes for ABIT. If it would been an ASUS board the beepcode from bios would mean mem not detected (repeeted beeps). I cant find any documentation about beepcodes in the ABIT instructionguid for the mobo.

Maybe 1 second beep then silent for 3 secs , then 1 sec beep and so on

The beep code you've described does in fact sound like a mem problem. Try reseating the mem or change the bank you have it in. is the mem ecc? if so it may not work, or you may have to set the mem timeings and so forth in the Bios. Goodluck!:):sun::p

I doubt its ecc. Its generic mem that my sister-in-law bought at bestbuy. I cant access the bios since it doesnt post.

Try powering off, unplugging the cord, taking out the ram, taking out the CMOS battery, waiting a few minutes and then putting it all back together (1 stick of ram). If it posts sett he BIOS up to the slowest timings and work from there.

You could also run Memtest on a different machine to test the memory.

I tried to boot outside the case. Still having same problem. I change cpu/heatsink. same problem. i have 2 strips of memory i tried one or both of them in diffrent slots and still same problem. Either both memory doesnt work or its something else.

"I tried to boot outside the case?"

Have you tried the MEM in another MB?

I now tried the mem in another board and its works. I tried the cpu in another board and it works fine. I also tried the videocard and its fine. So its either the motherboard thats doa or the mem is not compatible for the board.
I will be calling newegg the first thing in the morning. Thats where i bought it mobo and cpu.
