I see a lot of people going with 2 sticks of 512MB instead of one; why?

Couldn't you install a single 1GB stick to make upgrading a little easier, or are there memory issues with just one stick of Ram?

What if I wanted to install "Mushkin Dual Pack 184-Pin 1GB(512MBx2) DDR PC-3200"; will upgrading with a third 1GB stick create any memory problems?

That should read "I see a lot of people going with 2 sticks of 512MB instead of a single 1GB stick"; why?

Welcome to the forums--when you need to fix something in a post like that, we have a very convenient Edit button.

Anyway, S754 does, in fact, run a bit better with 1 DIMM, but 1GB modules are more expensive and generally a bit slower than modules of smaller capacity. If you fill all three memory banks on a S754 system, though, you won't be able to run at full PC3200 speed (you'll be relegated to either PC2700 or PC2100, I don't remember which).

I just read the spec sheet on the DFI web site and it does get little tricky depending on whether or not you use DS, SS, one Dimm slot, two Dimm slots or three. On various configurations it does go down to DDR 333.

Perhaps it's better to just use PC-2700 and overclock it as someone suggested on another thread?

Is anyone out there using a single 1GB stick in there DFI Motherboard, or two (for 2Gb) for that matter?
