This is all so confusing...

I finally found a spec sheet for my NEC memory. With regard to /CAS Latency, could someone help explain this?

It states:

/CAS Clock Clock
Latency frequency access
(MHz) time
MAX.
(ns)
----------------------------
3 133 5.4
2 100 6

Does this mean it'll run at CL=2, but only at 100MHz? Is that normal? Also, it looks like it'll be faster at CL=3. True? Am I even close?

hey there

Well, the first number (CAS latency) - CAS2 is approximately 10-15% faster than CAS3, assuming all the other settings remain the same. The middle number is the speed, and the last number is the max access time at the rated speed..

And yeah, it is normal for generic/cheaper PC133 to only be able to run at CAS2 at 100mhz, and only CAS3 at 133mhz - it's the same with my mosel vitec cheap stuff. It will be faster at 133mhz CAS3 than 100mhz CAS2, and may handle CAS2@133 if you're lucky, but I wouldn't bank on it (can't get Celeron533 to 133 to try out my memory, though I'm getting close - 124mhz works, and the memory's still at CAS2).

cheers
