Memory Question

Right now I have 1gb of Mushkin extreme performance DDR2-800 @ 4-4-3-10. Ive been

wanting to upgrade to 2gb's for a while but any time that I have looked i could never find the

same kit I bought originally. I checked today and I found the same kit, everything is

identical including the timings but the stuff that just now came out has the EPP and the stuff i

currently have doesn't. My question is, isl there be any compatibility issues between the 2

sets of RAM or will everything work ok?

TIA

You cannot mix ECC and non ECC. Buying a different module should be ok as long as you keep like modules matched in dual channel mode (ie like sticks in the 1st and 3rd slots and 2nd and 4th for most typical board layouts.) Also remember you'll run at the slowest timings, so don't bother getting a faster cas latency set.

The new stuff I am buying is not ECC, it is EPP, there is a difference. I am aware that if i mix memory speeds that it will run at the lowest speed. EPP = Enhanced Performance Profiles ( or something like that).

First, let me fix something...

Secondly, yes it will work fine.

Memory is a lot less picky than it's made out to be. You should have no problems other than forcing the faster stick to run at the slower speed.
