Right now I have 2 sticks of 512MB Samsung PC4200 in dual channel. I want to add another Gig with 2 more sticks of 512. Do I HAVE to use Samsung memory, or can I use another brand?
 
You can generally use any brand. Just make sure the matching slots each have the matching units, to have the best chance of avoiding compatibility problems. (Meaning with slots A B C D, A and C have your current brand in dual channel, put new memory in B and D.) You still have to make sure you get modules that are compatible with your mainboard, and that will run at whatever timings and speeds you are using now.
