Hello all, I am currently running 2 X512 Kingston valueram
xp2500 system. I'm thinking of getting a X23800 rig together
can I expect this speed ram (pc2700) to work at ddr400
speeds or should I bite the bullet and spring for new ram
with the MB/CPU purchase? Thanks in advance for any help/
opinions...

you could attempt to OC the memory to run at DDR400 but let's just go with the fact that it is indeed value ram, so it's not worth it.

Spring for some new memory when you make your purchase.

You can try and it may work but will most likely be "flakey" if that makes sense.

Ram is cheap right now, I would just buy new ram and avoid the testing/headache.

sounds like the best idea, to buy new, even if I got it to run@ddr400 speed there
would be no room to overclock at all.

You aren't likely to be able to clock it up to DDR400, though you could just run it at rated speed and take the performance hit.

That's true but it takes the fun out of a new build. I can still sell
my current shuttle an35n/xp2500 to pay for the new ram, it's really
been a stable as a 440BX, would make a great cheepo in-laws type
of rig for someone..Now I have to decide between 940/AM2! there's a
lot of threads about that subject so I've got a lot of reading to do thanks
again for the opinions/help.

I wouldn't buy new ram unless you are going AM2 otherwise you are throwing money into a dying format.

I run DDR2700 on my 3200+ A64 and it really isn't that big of a deal. A64's aren't that sensitive to ram speed.
