Memory Question

I recently picked up a 1 gig stick of OCZ Performance DDR 400 @ 3.3.3.8 to add to my ram in sig. Well after updating bios so it would actually boot with all 3 sticks i find i lose my original dual channel gig and is running all 2 gigs in single channel. The question I have is 2 gigs running single channel (64bit - 2T) better or worse than 1 gig dual channel (128bit - 1T)?

I mostly play CS-S but am also trying out some of the newer games for a little change just curious what would benefit me more.

I've done quite a few google searches using different wording and can't seem to find a clear answer

You can't find a clear answer because it depends entirely on how much memory your system can effectively use to improve performance which in turn depends on all the software running at the time, which can vary considerably. Having said that; the HL2 engine is sensitive to memory speeds and 1gig is probably sufficient. Desktop performance may be a little sluggish right after you exit the game due to some swapping but in game performance will probably be a little better. After running for a week with your current setup just switch to the other setup and judge by your own experience which setup is better suited to your use.
