Memory question

I'm running an Athlon 64 3000+ processor on an Epox 9NPA+ motherboard with 1gb (2x512) Geil value ram.

If I want to upgrade to 2gb of ram, do I need to purchase the exact same memory for the other 2 slots, or can I go with a different brand (or go with faster memory)? Thanks!

You could go with a differant brand, or even with faster memory, but all 4 sticks will run at the timings of the slowest sticks, and you'll also be forced to 2T timings with 4 sticks(thought that doesn't really make that huge of a differance). If you have an older core(ie you don't have a venice or san diego core) you'll also be dropped down to 333mhz as well. Again, probably won't make a huge differance. I have 2x512mb sticks of PQI turbo, and 2x512mb sticks of Kingmax Hardcore, it they run just fine together with my 4200+ X2.
