I have a 256 of 3200 running in my comp and I have an extra 256 stick of 2100 laying around. I was wondering if I would do better to add the extra ram even though it will down clock the other 256 or whether the faster speed even though its less will give better performance.

Thanks for an help

As for your performance, that will depend on your setup and whether or not your processor needs the extra bandwidth.

Yeah... I'd have to say it depends on what you're doing.

What's you processor / FSB?

There's no harm in trying either. You can set it back if you're not happy with the outcome.

Its a 2600+ 333 in a Asus A7N8X Deluxe.
I'm using it as a file server.
Running 2003 server.

I haven't run a file server before, so I'm not really sure what the optimal memory configuration would be.

It seems to me that it would be better to have 512 in a server than have the difference between 266fsb and 333fsb would make.

Do you know what the memory usage on the server is already? Does it end up using virtual memory a lot? If it does, then I'd say going with 512 would definately be the path to take.

It will lower everything to the slowest RAM.
