i have 2 x 256 MB and want 1 gig.... I read that with P4's, (I have an msi 865 PE Neo 2 board) you can run a 512 MB stick in dual channel mode with 2 x 256, is this true? I have kingston brand modules and would buy the same, my manual offers no information about it.

if you aren't sentimentally tied to your RAM, you could sell the 2x256MB and get 2x512 . . .

Yeah I could Amol, though im on a tight budget.. and it seems like a better idea, just to get 1 stick of 512 if I can run it in dual channel.. anyways.. I heard it was possible

You might want to save yourself some heartache by asking your mb OEM whether DC will work under those conditions. I ran an a7n8x dlx with 2x256 and 1x512 in DC mode and wasn't impressed with the performance. I found out later that the memory controller didn't like the configuration and that I had been running the equivalent of SC mode all along.

Double check your manual, chapter 2 section 2-7 and 2-8 give you memory configurations, and like hardwarrior stated, with what you want to install you will be runnin' single channel.
