Memory Question?

If both can be had for around $160, and the Kingston being a little cheaper with rebate, which one would you buy?

Kingston 1GB PC3200 400MHz 2-64x64 HyperX DDR Memory 184Pin $160 --- $140 with rebate

Patriot 1GB PC3200 400MHz (2x512MB) Dual Channel DDR $160

I like the Kingston name, but I want the best OC'r and over all best quality ram?

I see the Patriot memory has lower timings, 2-3-2-5-T1

and the Kingston HyperX is 2-3-2-6-1T

This will be going inside a future A64 build that I'm building...and I have some concerns with the Kingston HyperX

http://secure.newegg.com/app/C...=1&item=20-144-114 on newegg customer reviews, ppl are saying the hyperx is only CAS2 with intel setups, for AMD motherboards its CAS 2.5

You know, I live in TX so sales tax will be applied to that price....so it will be around $180, is there a better RAM i can buy online for around $180....but $180 is pushing it (im on a budget )

I see this , but its CAS3? Would this be a better buy?

Patriot PC-4000 DDR 1gb dual chan

Thanks!

thanks again for all the help !
😉

The third set of RAM is CL3 at PC4000, so it's likely the same chips as the 2-3-2-5 Patriot (though the PC4000 may be TCCD--I'm not sure--whereas the 2-3-2-5 Patriot is not).

If you'd like to save money, though, just get two sticks of value RAM (see stickied 939 Memory Matrix in CPU/OC), though with the stuff that cheap you could probably just use it to fool around if you wanted.

Hmm I just saw that socket 939 memory matrix post....very interesting stuff!

So if I'm understanding this correctly, I could get some cheap value memory and still OC well using dividers? (excuse me if im using wrong terminology, im on a sdram setup so this will be my first time using DDR and OC'ing)

If you could, could you tell me whats the best value ram to get to OC a A64 3200+ winchester 939 from 2ghz to at least 2.4ghz?

Thanks!

Also, i have another question, which is better to get, A64 3000+ 939 or A64 3200+ 939? I want at least 2.4ghz, preferably 2.5ghz.

Thanks guys!

You'll see the usual Corsair/Mushkin/Crucial/Kingston get recommended. Just get the cheapest value PC3200 from any of these you can find. This should run about $130-140 on Newegg with shipping.

All three Winches usually top out around 2.6-2.7 on air, so you can get whatever's cheapest, though the 3200+ may give you some added security (not with firewalls/stuff, the other kind)/confidence with a higher multiplier of 10.

hmm so there will be hardly any benefit getting the Patriot or Kingston CL2 ram over Value ram at CAS 2.5, right?

Not noticably. If you plan on using dividers anyway, all the value RAM will work. The low latency expensive stuff (OCZ Plat Rev2, Corsair XMS, etc.) is for people who don't want to use a divider, which obviously is slightly better, but not really worth the extra $100 IMO.
