Memory Question

I'm looking at getting some decent ram. I want to put together a Barton 2500+ so I wanted to get some memory that was rated at 200fsb and maybe even 233fsb. The only problem is that I'm not made of money so I want some decent memory for a decent price. Here are a couple of the candidates so far

Geil Dual Channel 184 Pin 512MB(256MBx2) DDR PC-3200 - Retail $83
Buffalo Technology 184 Pin 256MB DDR PC-3700 w/ Micron Module - OEM $96

Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Avoid Geil for AMD setups. Some work some don't but I would avoid them altogether.
Buffalo with Micron will do what is advertised and nothing more, not impressive memory at all. I have exactly that chip in my server and it is OK but forget about any overclocking with it.

Yeah, except for getting it to run at 2.2ghz, i.e.- XP3200 speed.

Yes, the memory works as it is suppose to and nothing more. Winbond BH-5 does the same frequencies with 2-2-2-5 and Hynix does the same timmings with 250 or more. So this Micron is worse than both but given the budget price it is really hard to complain.

Well, that was exactly my point, Joe. Buffalo Tech. definitely isn't the best memory, but it will get you up to 2.2ghz, which is all most first-time overclockers are looking for. BTW, it's the best deal there is in OCing, along with the 2.4ghz and 2.6ghz P4C's. But, then again, the P4C's are twice the price.:D

So there is still a memory argument going on :) So what's the best memory for that price???

Also another thing what's the performance/overclocking difference between the
Abit NF7 $78
Abit NF7-S v2 $92

Is it worth the extra 14 dollars for the NF7-S V2

Thanks for all the help guys and keep the suggestions coming :) Also if you have any links to any reviews of these motherboards that would be very much appreciated!!!

I think it's worth it, but you better hurry, because they're only selling the NF7-S for $92 for a couple more hours.

Good luck finding BH-5. I have a ton but these are not available any more. Some say only Mushkin has them still. Buffalo does not. They sell Micron chips now. Just a pale shade of the previous Buffalo with BH-5.
It is a mistery of the OC world why Winbond stopped producing BH-5 and there are a lot of speculations but they are not made any more. HyperX from Kingston now has all sorts of chips and BH-5 might be among them. ;-)
They show up occassionally on refurbish section of newegg but mostly returned by overclockers and there is little chance you'd get a high overclocking chip there.
