hey guys,

i bought 2 compaq evo 510 ultra slim desktops for a home lab im setting up(think of them as equivalents to gx280's from dell). anyway they only came with 512mb of ram and i want to throw another gig into each of them. the thing for me though is i want to buy the cheapest ram possible. i know lots of generic stuff will fit in this thing, but i just dont want to make the mistake of buying some ram with the same exact specs as the pc was designed to use only for it to not fit in the slots. im thinking these name brand systems are picky about ram right? ive never owned any name brand pc so im kind of lost here. i know i can type in the make and model into google and buy ram off a few sites that are compatible with these systems, but the prices tend to jack up a little more i think when looking using that method. heres what i read off one of the chips:

pc2100u-20330-b1

512mb ddr 133mhz cl2

any help would be appreciated thanks.

Those were the old desktops where I used to work. We upgraded people by replacing their 256MB with a 1GB stick of Simpletech RAM. In other words, RAM is RAM - cheap or not, all that matters is whether it works or not. Just get any PC2100 and you should be fine.
