I was wondering which forum to post this question in... I hope this was not the worst possible choice ;)

Anyway, does anyone know FOR SURE (I've heard a lot of "opinions" already, besides having some on my own) if DDR333 SDRAM module will work in place of a DDR266 module (specifically, in a mobo with a KT266A chipset)? If so, could a DDR333 CL2.5 module replace a DDR266 CL2 module, e.g. be able to run with the same setting?

Any input is welcome. Thx.

It will be just fine. I have a DDR400 stick on 266/333 board and at default setting it will be considered underclock.
At mod setting (3:4) I cant make it at the spec speed as DDR400.

Thx for the answer, CoDerEd, I found out myself too already. So to share my findings with anyone coming by later:

I had a stick of 256 MB DDR266 CL2 Apacer memory, my FSB o/c'ed to 140, command rate set to 2T, CL set to 2, of course. Command rate of 1T would not even boot. This memory stick had chips on both sides of the module, so under SiSoft Sandra, it reported two 128 MB banks.

I replaced it today with a 256 MB DDR333 CL2.5 Apacer module, having chips on only one side, and thus reporting a single 256 MB bank. I left everything in the BIOS as it were (including the CL setting of 2), except for the command rate, which I am now able to have at 1T. Memory peformance increased a bit, and measured by different versions of SiSoft Sandra, I got interestingly different results:

- in SiSoft Sandra 2001 Pro, I had 804/869 MB/s with the old DDR266 memory, and it jumped quite nicely up to 841/904 MB/s with the DDR333 stick
- in SiSoft Sandra 2002 Std, I had 2052/1909 MB/s, and it went up only marginally to 2054/1924. I guess the buffered access doesn't profit as much from the decreased command rate as the old unbuffered access of Sandra 2001.

Myself, I consider this topic closed, except maybe if there is someone so knowledgable who could enlighten us all on the reason of the difference in speed gains under different versions of SiSoft Sandra...?
