Okay, so I currently have 3 sticks of Kingston HyperX pc3000 memory. 1 512mb module and 2 256mb modules. They are happily running dual channel in my Epox 8RDA+ with an Athlon XP 2100+ processor.

I've been looking into upgrading to an Athlon 64. My thoughts were an Athlon 64 3000+ in a DFI Lanparty UT or something of similiar quality.

From what I've read I understand that Athlon 64 technology requires memory of at least pc3200, but I have had no problems in the past overclocking my pc3000 memory to those speeds and beyond. Does that not matter? Also, I've been reading all this stuff that socket 754 motherboards do not support dual channel and will only take single-sided memory. What exactly does single sided memory mean?

My question is basically will I be able to keep the 3 sticks of memory I currently have or am I going to have to get different memory? If I keep them will I be able to run them in dual channel like I currently am? Any advice would be very appreciated. Thank you

Athlon 64 doesn't require DDR400 memory, you can run DDR333 or DDR266.

Single-sided memory is when all the chips are in the same side of the PCB. But the A64 works with double-sided memory too.

So I won't have any problems sticking with the memory I've got now?

Also, I thought double-sided memory was better. Why would there be a sudden reversion to using single sided?
