Memory Probs, any program to test the RAM?

Well, I've been having problems with my comp, and I really think something might be wrong with the memory (a random reboot in linux, memory error messages when setting up windows, corrupted files in windows (the same file over and over again).

are there any applications which will thouroughly test the memory for me and detect errors?

thanks

Thanks a lot, I'll try both of them when I get back home.

lets hope its just the memory and nothing else.

MemTest86 v2.5 is good. dotn have link, but you can find it as i did using google.com
i have it on my multiboot win2k cd, and its great.

edit: just saw bacillus's post. oh well, use his link.

unfortunately, I can't get memtest to work.

I can't get into windows at all, and I am a total newb in linux. I made the startup disk from linux, but once it started up, all it showed was scrolling hexadecimal numbers. Is that what the test is supposed to be like?

and when is it done?

If you see numbers like that, then Memtest sees errors.

The Windows version runs from a boot floppy it creates where everything but the initial program loader is replaced by Memtest.

are you sure those are errors? for 15 minutes, I saw nothing else but hexadecimal numbers.

surely the ram cannot be that bad and run my computer without a prob for 3 months (its a micron/infeneon pc133 stick)
