First off, thank you for taking the time to look at my question. I am in need of some dire help as I cannot figure out the fix.
I am a avid gamer. Mostly of World of Warcraft and as some of you may know it requires a lot of memory. Well, my dad uses my old computer which has one nice memory stick in it. Seeing as how I thought I could always use some more memory, why not steal it? Well, I did and have tried to install it. When it is installed it works sometimes and others it doesnt. Here are the details...
I am running a Asus P4C-800e Deluxe motherboard and currently have 2x OCZ 256 DDR400 Dual channel memory sticks that are taking up the dual channel option. Now, when I try to install this other memory stick, which is a Corsair XMS 256 mb stick ( product number CMX256A-3200 C2) I get a few problems. As you may know the Asus P4C-800e Deluxe motherboard has 4 slots for two sets of dual channel configuration. I am 90% sure I can run 1 set and then throw in another memory stick as I am doing. Although, that could be the problem here but I was not able to find out by looking at my user manual. Anyways, lets say the two OCZ sticks are taking up slots 1 and 3. That leaves slots 2 and 4 left. Now, when my computer boots up normally the first screen I see is the Asus AI screen, then it detects for IDE drives, then pauses a bit with the _ operator on the top left of the screen, then windows loads. Now, when I put the corsair stick into slot 2 all that happens is it sits (possibly freezes, cannot tell) at the AI screen and does not go anywhere. When I put the Corsair stick into slot 4 I see the AI screen, then detects IDE drives, then the _ symbol on the top left, blinking and then it goes to a black screen and just sits there. Now, my video card isnt dieing or anything because my monitor displays whether or not it is recieving data from the video card. But, it just sits there, with a black screen. I have tried letting it sit for up to 10 minutes but it seemed kind of pointless to go any further.
Basically, thats my problem. I cant get windows to load when I run a set of dual channel memory sticks and a corsair memory stick on the side that is not set up for dual channel.
Also, I forgot to mention that I am able to enter the bios when the corsair memory stick is in slot 4. When doing so I checked the amount of memory and it defiantley sees the corsair stick because its showing that I have 768 mb of memory which is the correct number. I have also set all my bios settings to default just to see if that may help, no go.
-Is there some type of compatibilaty error?
-Is it something other then the memory?
-Do you guys need more information? (I will be refreshing this post about every 10 minutes)
Thanks for all help in advance!
