Hello all. Not a very savvy computer person and I'm having trouble with new RAM.

Intel dual-core 6870
Gigabyte P35-DS3R motherboard
8800GTS vid card
Corsair 700 watt ps
Vista home 32 bit

I've been trying to put 4x1gig stick of Crucial Ballitic ram in my system...1066 ddr
I swapped out the 2x1 gig of OCZ ram of the same type...

It runs fine for a while then the system starts to become unstable.
I've heard the upping the voltage might be needed...

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank you.

Welcome to anandtech. Alot of times, you have to add Vdimm, when running 4 sticks of RAM, but not always. Try just raising your northbridge voltage first, while giving the Ballistix at least 2.1v of Vdimm

dont wanna scare you but i've had some pretty large-scale problems with 4 x 1gb ballistix. but that was with RMA problems, ended up getting new 2 x 2gb

ok I raised the vdimm...What I have in there now is 3 gigs. 2x1 ocz 1066, 1x1 crucial ballistix...I ran memtest, the free version...no errors....

I upped one of the settings in the bios to put the ram to 1066 but I'm a little concerned because it says the multiplier to get that is 4x...??

Thank you for replying.

PS what should I raise the northbridge voltage to? Whats the name in the bios where I would find that option?

Many new boards have problems with four sticks of RAM due to capacitance and other interactions between the traces. The problems increase as the speed rises. You'll probably get better, more reliable results with 2 x 2 GB sticks.
