Hey guys, I was hoping that I could get some help. I own a new Dell Xps Gen 4 and I decided that I wanted to add more memory to it so I bought a 1gb bundle pack from OCZ. OCZ DDR2 PC2-4200 / 533MHz / Platinum Edition / Enhanced Bandwidth / Limited Edition / Revision 2 / Dual Channel , thats basically the specs from it. My problem comes when I put the memory in...the computer doesnt work and it makes beeping sounds. I called Dell and they told me that something along the lines that its best to buyDell memory. Now, I am not that smart when it comes to computers so I didnt see this coming but is there a way i can make it work?? My other concern is if the site i bought it off of wont give me a complete refund. Do i need to update stuff or something?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Try the new modules alone, in the slots that the stock modules presently occupy, and see if it works like that. If the Dell allows memory-voltage adjustments, bump the memory voltage 0.1 volt in the motherboard's BIOS menu before you shut down to do the swap, too.

Hi, welcome to the forums.

First thing is to make sure it is firmly pushed into the slot. Sometimes it seem it is, but no. Start again.
Has it at anytime posted successfully?

Have you tried clearing the CMOS [with the power disconnected]?

When it comes to OEM computers, it's best to buy memory that's specifically matched and tested to work with that system. All memory is not the same. If it was a home-built system you could tweak the memory timing but you can't do that on an OEM system.

Crucial and Corsair both have online databases that let you enter the make and model of your computer or mobo and order memory that's guaranteed to work with it.

You should be able to get a refund on the memory if it's within 30 days of purchase but there's probably a re-stocking charge of 10-15%

Yea thats the weird thing....I tried them alone (and made sure they were pushed in correctly) and the computer still didnt work so that is when i decided to call dell. Now im not computer expert but while i shooped for memory, i noticed that most had 1.8 volts for memory that the computer uses and I know that the OCZ says 2.0 volts....is that an issue?? And if I bump the voltage 0.1 does it affect the other memory too. Thanks guys
